CAUGHT!

Most children tried smoking at some point, and were easily discovered because of their increasingly loud coughing sounds, the puffs of smoke coming from hideouts, missing cigarettes, and sometimes crying.  Warnings and/or punishment usually followed.

  1. After trying smoking as a child, I never wanted to smoke again. I think it may be because my parents never said that I could not smoke - they allowed me to make that decision myself. Daddy began smoking to stay awake when he was a student at LSU. He attended classes during the day, and played clarinet in a dance band at night. Mother didn't smoke, since it wasn't considered lady-like.
