THE STAR

Music and dance were studied in hopes of getting to Hollywood.  Silver Screen and Photoplay were scrutinized and autographed photos of movie stars prized.  Debbie Reynolds and Eddie Fisher were loved, but Eddie became less popular when he left Debbie for Elizabeth Taylor.

  1. Most girls took dancing lessons - especially ballet - from Miss Mary Alice. She designed the costumes that were made for us to wear in the recital each spring. Performances were usually in the high school auditorium and not only parents attended - it was a city-wide event. Miss Mary Alice, who didn't want to be addressed as Mrs. Callahan, built a house with the second floor as her dance studio. There were glass partitions for watching classes and the handsome young man who played an upright piano for our lessons. It was like a club.
