Training began in early childhood. Sewing as well as cooking and ironing were considered prize attributes. Girls were expected to be accomplished in those areas while demonstrating a sweet disposition, so Mr. Right would be knocked off his feet and want to marry them.
One friend emailed and referred to this collage as "Wonder Woman".
ReplyDeletePS - My grandmother gave lessons to me about the correct way to iron. Sheets and pillowcases were easy enough, but men's shirts and ruffly dressy took a bit of expertise. Girls began ironing by practicing on their doll clothes.
