Trains were the fastest and most popular means of transportaion for traveling great distances. Airplanes were not yet available to the masses because of high cost and non-accessibility. As a form of entertainment, parents took their children to see planes land and take-off at the airport, but rarely to fly. |
My sister and I rode the train from Mauriceville, Texas to visit grandparents in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. We enjoyed watching the landscape change through the open windows, playing cards and being served a meal in the dining car. Great fun!
ReplyDeleteLove it. I still consider a train the most romantic and elegant way to travel.
ReplyDeleteI especially remember the porters and stewards who helped along the way.
ReplyDeleteagreed, I still love travelling through trains. It that kinda fun that no matter how much luxury airplanes provide you, it can't replace it! :)
ReplyDeleteI've never ridden overnight in the sleeping compartments. My few trips were short in duration.
ReplyDeleteGuess it could get rather chaotic - I'm thinking of the movie "Some Like it Hot".
