| I was named after my daddy, Joel Clayton Smith. My parents thought two children were enough, and since they already had one daughter, I was their last chance for a boy. They added an "l" and an "e" to Joel to make Joelle. I loved the name Joelle because it was different, and was disappointed to eventually learn that Joelle is a common name in France. |

Fun! I like it! I was supposed to be a boy, so my folks were prepared to name me after my father. They didn't even HAVE a girl's name picked out. So they named me after my mother.
ReplyDeleteIt's fun feeling unique, even if it's just having an unusual name. I think my sense of uniqueness when I was young came from growing up in a family without rules.
ReplyDeleteI didn't have many rules growing up either. My parents both worked, so my sister and I were very creative in planning and pursuing after-school activities.
DeleteGirls are frequently given "boy" names now - without changes to make them seem more feminine. One of my daughters wants to name a daughter (if she has one) "Jim".
ReplyDeleteYou have a cool name with an even cooler history. I actually have a friend that I call "Q" which is short for Quinnette.
